Mindful Travel Tips

Everyone was looking at me like ‘what is she on?’⁣

I could have easily been upset, yet I wasn’t…⁣

My flight was two hours delayed.⁣

I missed my connection. ⁣

They rebooked me on a new flight 4 hours later with an extra connection, adding 7 hours to my travel time. ⁣

But rather than giving into the low vibes of everyone around me, I popped my headphones in and started grooving. I was literally dancing while I was in the customer service line (I’m sure you can picture it).⁣

Years ago, I was on the other side of things. I’d let my emotions get the best of me and take them out on other people frequently. But that kinda feels like shit after that initial emotional release.

I now focus my energy on things I CAN control because it feels so much better! I recognized that the gate agents were doing the best they could to help the disgruntled customers in line. I knew that no matter what, I would get to my destination. And I know that it actually helps the situation to RISE above; to lead with kindness and gratitude.

Traveling can quickly go from exciting to stressful; it’s easy to allow negative energy to affect your own emotions. But it’s important to differentiate what you CAN control and what you CAN’T control.

Here are some things I do to keep myself in a mindful state during travel:⁣

• Play high vibe music – pop in those headphones and groove!⁣

• Stretch your body – tilt your neck side to side, roll your shoulders, walk around a bit…⁣

• Drink lots of water – pay attention to how the water feels in your mouth and going down your throat…this is a great mindfulness tool that is good for your body too!⁣

• Deep breaths – count to 4 as you breathe in, hold it in for 2 seconds, and count to 4 as you breathe out.⁣

• Close your eyes – pay attention to your heartbeat, breath pattern, thoughts, how your body is feeling, what you hear around you…⁣

• Write out how you’re feeling – pull out your journal or type into your phone rather than taking your emotions out on other people⁣

• Protect your energy – you do NOT have to let other people’s energy affect you.  ⁣

Mindset is EVERYTHING. A positive mindset makes life a lot more enjoyable!
